Cintiq love

Last week, I got myself a brand new Cintiq 12WX interactive pen display by Wacom! I guess I'll be posting a lot more from now on. Can't... stop... drawing!

Character design #02

An early photoshop sketch of the head character for my graduation project. Although in the meantime her design has changed, this small sketch defined her final look (which I'll post soon)!

Mia's

Another animation short by Jasper van Gestel, starring a lot of the characters and stuff I made while working at Design is Dead. This one was made for the Music Industry Awards 2012, which televised last saturday.

Dela commercial

Last summer, when I was still an intern at Design is Dead, I got the chance to work on an animation commercial for a new concept by insurance company Dela: Safe in Heaven. This is sort of a ‘virtual testament’, an online safe to store personal documents and passwords for social media and other online accounts, where your family can retrieve them in case something happens to you.
We used a stop motion technique, quite similar to the one of the animation shorts for ‘Iedereen Beroemd’. I got to draw the storyboard, and then I designed and made everything, starting with the big cardboard safe.
For me, this was a great opportunity! I had never worked on a commercial before, and got a lot of freedom during the design process.

Here’s a part of the storyboard:

And I hope you like the result!

Paper animations: Het Laatste Woord door Jasper

It’s been a while since I posted work on my blog. But the last few months I’ve been very busy with my first real job! I worked at Design is Dead, a creative agency in Antwerp, on a series of cutout animation shorts created by Jasper van Gestel. Every episode Jasper gives his own original view on an idea, a trend, or something that has caught his eye. My job was to design and produce the characters, props and every other visual element needed. Such fun! :)
Our animations are shown every monday at the end of ‘Iedereen Beroemd’, a TV show on ‘Eén’ (channel 1 on Belgian national television). Which is exciting, because it means our work gets to be watched by at least one million viewers per episode!

This one was the very first to air on TV (it’s about hipsters).

You can watch the rest of our paper animations on Jasper’s YouTube channel and Facebook page.

Dizwit Festival (t-shirt preview)

This is a logo (and how it would look on a t-shirt) I designed for Dizwit, a small drum ’n bass / hip hop / dubstep festival organized by a group of brave young lads, including my brother :).

The theme this year is a tornado/storm, because twice in a row (during the first two editions) they had unbelievable bad luck with the weather. The last time the festival even got blown away by the most horrible storm! That’s why drew this little sketch, suggesting they should make such bad weather their trademark…

Betty

Still trying to improve my Illustrator skills! I’m really starting to enjoy working with this program. I chose a slightly more complicated figure for this exercise.

Character design #01

These are a few design sketches I made for the leading character of my next animated short (and graduation project). I still have to find the right visual style for the film in general, but at least I feel I’m getting closer to a good look for the girl.

First post: New Year card

For the very first time I made something in Adobe Illustrator! The result is far from perfect, but it was a good exercise. And while getting to know the program, I made my family some New Year cards (the figures represent my parents, brothers, boyfriend and me).

Happy New Year!
